With the presentation of Constructech Magazine’s 5th Annual Vision Awards, national retailers are taking notice of site|folio, an innovative software application offering retailers a centralized and customizable solution for managing their portfolio of building sites and projects. On November 3, Costco Wholesale was presented with a Gold Award, the highest honor, in the Retail/Wholesale category for their use of site|folio. Costco Wholesale is the market leader in their industry because they know how to do more with less. They understood that efficient tracking and centralization of their building program information in order to make rapid, informed decisions was critical to the success of their architecture program.
The Solution
Upon implementing site|folio™, suddenly all of the many architects, consultants, contractors, vendors, and departments within Costco were speaking the same language – Costco’s language. site|folio now tracks project status from real estate evaluations and entitlements all the way through store opening and beyond, providing quick and easy access to project status updates, drawings, and weekly site photographs sent in from contractors.
Within site|folio, Project Managers can control all consultant and contractor invoices and pay applications, track when RFI’s become Change Proposals, and when those become Change Orders. And since site|folio is a program with repeatable methodology, the Estimating and Cost Management Group can evaluate change orders and make adjustments to the building program in order to save money on future projects.
Communications and updates previously handled by multi-party conference calls, faxes, and memos are now handled by site|folio’s real-time status reports and e-mail notifications. What’s more, authorized users can access site|folio anywhere they find Internet access.
Doing Even More with Less
Even after construction is complete, site|folio monitors equipment warranties, ensuring the proper performance and maintenance of equipment across Costco’s entire portfolio of buildings. It also tracks utility rebates available from multiple utility companies across the nation. With the help of site|folio, Costco has realized a dramatic savings in energy rebates over the past two years.
